Marvel Studios President Teases Kit Harington’s Role In The MCU Going Forward
Of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe-related announcements made at Disney’s D23 Expo last weekend, arguably the most intriguing of them all was the news that Kit Harington had been cast as Dane Whitman / Black Knight in Eternals.
Following the conclusion of Game of Thrones, Harington — who is arguably one of the most popular actors on planet Earth at the moment — was left without a franchise.
And because Marvel Studios is Marvel Studios, they wasted no time in recruiting the former Jon Snow actor’s talents to the MCU.
Now, while Black Knight may not be a character as popular as Wolverine — which some fans speculated was the role he was cast in — does not mean he’s not an important character, as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is already teasing a larger role for the character in the MCU going forward.
Speaking with Good Morning America at the D23 Expo, Feige discussed the potential for Kit Harington’s role in the MCU to grow.
“He’s a really amazing actor, and this part came up in The Eternals film that we’re doing. We were so happy when he agreed to join, and it is a part that could perhaps grow into something else in the future.”
As CinemaBlend points out, Black Knight has a history as a member of the Avengers, having joined Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers #71, meaning that Feige’s reference of Harington’s role “growing into something else in the future” could indicate his inclusion in the larger grand scheme of the MCU.
Harington will make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Eternals — which also stars Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, and Gemma Chan — hits theaters on November 6, 2020.
