LeBron James and hisbusiness partner, Maverick Carter will be producing a new House Party movie. Reviving the 1990 cult hit classic originally fronted by musical duo Kid ‘n Play, House Party evolved into a successful New Line comedy franchise with sequels in 1991 and 1994.

While I’m skeptical of any reboot, especially of movies with super loyal followers, there is a reason for hope here. The screenplay will be penned by FX’s Atlanta writers Stephen Glover (Donald Glover’s brother) and Jamal Olori. Atlanta has been nothing short of a well-respected, massive hit show with remarkable writing and I have faith Glover and Olori can do a great job writing this reboot.

“Everyone I grew up with loved House Party. To partner with this creative team to bring a new House Party to a new generation is unbelievable.”
— LeBron James told The Holywood Reporter

The original film featured a heavy influence of musical talent in the cast, including Kid ‘n Play, Groove B Chill, and members of Full Force. LeBron’s partner, Maverick Carter, mentioned they are “trying out some ideas for musicians to be cast in and to be a part of the project” as the House Party reboot project develops.

These days there are a ton of great musicians that dip into acting and vice-versa, so they should be able to get some fun personalities involved. Regardless, I have very high hopes for this soundtrack to be insanely good.

Will LeBron have an on-screen role in the movie? Carter addressed that question by stating, “There’s no plan for it now, but he’s a fantastic actor, and if he wants a role, Stephen will find a great role to put him in.” So, we shall see. I won’t lie, he was the funniest part of Trainwreck.
