LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight was released across gaming platforms last week and has since been blowing up on social media — not just for its Arkham-inspired gameplay, extensive dive into Batman’s history, and its gorgeous rendering of a massive open-world Gotham City, but for the sheer volume of deep-cut Easter eggs and pop culture references that are stuffed into every corner of the game.
From direct references to Batman lore to jokes about media franchises entirely outside the DC Universe, here are the six best Easter Eggs that we could find in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
Here is our ranking of the Top 6 best Easter Egg references that can be found in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
6. Black Adam/The Rock

Whenever Batman sits on a throne in the game, there’s a chance he’ll say “The hierarchy of power in Gotham is about to change” — a direct riff on the phrase Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson used to promote his ill-fated Black Adam DCEU movie that wound up having more cultural traction than the movie itself.
5. The Shawshank Redemption
In the bowels of Arkham Asylum, as Batman is escorting Joker through the legendary madhouse, players can spot a LEGO version of the iconic Rita Hayworth poster that Andy Dufresne used to hide his escape tunnel in The Shawshank Redemption.

4. Officer Boles
During an escort mission set in Arkham Asylum, the Joker taunts Officer Boles — a character pulled directly from Batman: Arkham Asylum — with the line “How’s the wife, and the two little Boles?” As Joker delivers the pun, the Arkham PA system jingle plays in the background, in addition to Warner Bros. Games themselves replying to the clip when it went viral on social media.

3. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
During the Penguin boss fight, he drops “So anyway, I started blastin'” — Frank Reynolds’ iconic line from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Danny DeVito, of course, also played the Penguin in Batman Returns, with this version of the character being directly based on that performance.

2. I Think You Should Leave
Inside a Gotham diner, a customer asks about food challenges, and the waiter explains that finishing “55 burgers, 55 shakes, and 55 tacos” will get you thrown out — a direct lift from Tim Robinson’s “Pay It Forward” sketch in his beloved cult sketch comedy show I Think You Should Leave.
The official LEGO account on X/Twitter also confirmed the validity of the reference by responding to a clip of it on social media.

1. Michael Cain’s infamous “Batman Begin” tweet
Batman’s trust butler Alfred — based on Michael Caine’s portrayal in Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy — recites the real meme-ified tweet Caine posted in August 2024: “Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up. Batman Begin.” The missing “s” on Batman Begins and the notion of Michael Caine quoting himself on social media made the tweet a meme that persists to this day.
