Leonardo DiCaprio To Star As Leonardo Da Vinci In Biopic After Intense Bidding War

Did you know that Leonardo DiCaprio was named after Leonardo da Vinci? Leo’s parents were on their honeymoon in Florence, Italy when they visited the Uffizi Gallery in 1974. “They were looking at a da Vinci painting, and allegedly I started kicking furiously while my mother was pregnant,” Leonardo told NPR back in 2014. “And my father took that as a sign, and I suppose DiCaprio wasn’t that far from da Vinci. And so, my dad, being the artist that he is, said, ‘That’s our boy’s name.'” So it makes perfect sense that Leonardo DiCaprio play Leonardo da Vinci.

After an “intense bidding war,” Paramount Pictures beat out Universal to acquire the rights to the Leonardo da Vinci biopic adapted from an upcoming book. DiCaprio will star as da Vinci and will also produce the movie about the Renaissance thinker and artist under his Appian Way production company. The film will be based on an upcoming Leonardo da Vinci book by famed biographer Walter Isaacson.

Isaacson is a New York Times Best Selling author who has written biographies on some of the greatest thinkers in history such as Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, Henry Kissinger, and Steve Jobs. His 2007 book “Einstein: His Life and Universe” was adapted into National Geographic’s “Genius.” Isaacson’s “Steve Jobs” book became a biopic of the same name in 2015.

The “Leonardo da Vinci” book will be released October 17, 2017, and you can pre-order it HERE.
