Reports indicate that legendary cinema duo Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are teaming up for another film, an adaptation of the ‘ghost novel’ What Happens At Night. Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is also set to star in the film.

Written by Peter Cameron and published in August 2020, What Happens At Night follows an American married couple who travel to a small, snowy European city to adopt a baby, where they check into the mysterious Borgarfjaroasysla Grand Imperial Hotel and encounter an enigmatic cast of characters.

The report from Deadline, who broke the news, interestingly notes that Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio last “tackled this kind of sleight-of-hand material in their hit adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel Shutter Island.”

Despite the report, movie fans are hesitant to get excited as numerous Scorsese projects have been announced to be in development, some even with Leo, only to never come to fruition. A few year back, prior to the release of Killers of the Flower Moon, reports indicated the pair were next going to adapt the novel The Wager, also written by David Grann.

Then, earlier this year, it was reported the pair were reviving their previously shelved adaption on Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City. There is also a Hawaii-set project with DiCaprio, Emily Blunt and The Rock that’s also been confirmed to be in the works, among others.

If and when Marty and Leo do work on another movie together, it’ll mark the seventh time the pair have collaborated following Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

DiCaprio’s latest film, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, is being virtually unanimously hailed as a masterpiece and will reportedly put DiCaprio in pole position to win his second Academy Award for Best Actor.

The acclaimed actor has also reportedly been circling roles in an Evel Knievel biopic from La La Land director Damian Chazzelle and the sequel to Heat from director Michael Mann.
