A woman shared that she’s been lucid dreaming. However, her dreams are more akin to nightmares than vivid new worlds. Now, she’s trying to find answers as to why her sleep is so lucid and disorienting.
TikToker @Randobando39 posted a video that received more than 874,000 views. In it, she asked her audience whether any astral realm or sleep paralysis experts could help her. The content creator shared that she recently started a new medication, after which she experienced a “terrifying lucid dream.”
What Happened In Her Dream?
The TikToker shared that the medication she recently started taking helps her sleep more soundly at night. However, she noticed that she started having lucid dreams around the time she started taking it.
She described one of her lucid dreams. In it, she was in a lakehouse in Florida with her family and friends.
“ We were having a great time. We were, like, feeding the alligators and… having a barbecue. Having a great time. But then something happened to where an alligator jumped out of the water like a shark, and for whatever reason, it made me aware that I was having a dream,” Randobando39 said.
When the content creator realized she was dreaming, she asked a friend inside the dream to start making dinner with her. While prepping food, she said she told her friend that she was sleeping.
“She puts her knife down, looks at me and says, ‘You are not supposed to know that,’” Randobando39 recalled. The creator said she knew she wasn’t supposed to be dreaming, but asked her friend to keep it a secret between them. That’s when her friend’s face shifted.
The Lucid Dream Takes A Turn
As soon as Randobando39 asked to keep the dream a secret, her friend started backing up. The TikToker said the dream version of her friend had a look of panic on her face.
“ She says, ‘I have to tell the others. I have to tell the others. This is not good.’ And I’m like, ‘Misty, Misty, it’s OK. Like, I will, we will just, I’ll just keep pretending it’s a dream, or I’ll just wake up. Just wake me up,’” Randobando39 said.
Her friends and family in the dream all realized she knew she was sleeping, and they also started panicking. Randobando39 said the veil was starting to come off.
What Happens Next?
Randobando39 started asking questions. “My first question I asked her was, ‘Misty, where do you go, like, when I’m awake?’” And she said, ‘We never leave.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean that you never leave? Like you never leave my brain, or you never leave this dimension?’ And she goes, ‘I can’t tell you that,’” the TikToker recalled. She said the dream version of her friend provided her with a phone to listen to the outside world. When she listened, she heard her son rustling in his crib alongside other noises from the real world.
The TikToker started screaming into the phone in a desperate attempt to wake up, but it was futile. The situation became more terrifying, as her friend grabbed the phone and told her that she was in trouble. The TikToker recalled that her friends and family morphed into “their true form.”
All of a sudden, Randobando39 saw a doorway or portal. She ran through it, and then she woke up. Since her initial post, she posted two additional videos about her dreams. In one, she said she met her son’s spirit. In another, she said that the dream versions of her friends and family caught her lucid again.
Randobrando39 isn’t the only person to share their terrifying dreams online. Previously, BroBible covered one woman’s recurring nightmares. Commenters tried to unravel why the TikToker was having recurring dreams, similar to Randobrando39.
The Science Behind Lucid Dreams
Lucid dreams occur when a person knows they’re dreaming during sleep. They can feel vivid and real for those who have them. Often, lucid dreamers report being able to control narratives or events that play out during their sleep.
Most lucid dreams occur during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Leading experts have not discovered the exact reason why they occur, although cognitive neuroscientists have proven that active lucid dreamers have increased communication in their brains’ prefrontal cortex.
It’s estimated that 55% of adults have experienced at least one lucid dream, according to Oneironaut. Additionally, 23% of individuals have monthly lucid dreams.

How Medication Can Change Sleep Patterns
There’s wide evidence that medications can change sleep patterns and even cause lucid dreams to occur.
Medications such as SSRIs, SNRIs, and TCAs have all been reported to alter dreaming experiences for users, but they often “reduce dream vividness or increase nightmares, affecting emotional processing during sleep,” according to IntraSleep.
Other medications, such as benzodiazepines and Z-drugs, can increase sleep overall and affect sleep patterns.
