In Honor Of His 60th Birthday, Magic Johnson Shared His Top 60 Films, Places To Travel, And TV Shows

Magic Johnson has been living the dream for the past few weeks leading up to his 60th birthday (today) on August 14th. The former Los Angeles Lakers Point Guard turned President of Basketball Operations has been enjoying retirement by cruising through the Mediterranean on a yacht that costs $1 million/week to rent in Italy.

A ‘Top 60’ list from someone as famous as Magic Johnson will always be interesting. He’s seen more success in his life than most people could ever imagine. He has been globetrotting for decades and has rubbed elbows with the most successful people on the planet. So I do find his ‘top 60’ choices interesting.

However, something bothers me about these. He put all of his lists in alphabetical order! Instead of having the stones to actually rank his top 60 he just made the lists and then put them all in alphabetical order, presumably so he wouldn’t hurt anyone’s feelings.

Let’s start with Magic’s Top 60 for TV shows:

Some solid choices but he should’ve ranked them instead of put them in alphabetical order.

No love for Reykjavik? Magic’s clearly into warm-weather destinations. Most of his choices are places with white sand beaches. I do agree with his choice of Lisbon over Porto (Portugal) despite many travelers feeling the opposite.

Is it really fair to say that some of these people ‘turned entrepreneur’ when they’re still professional athletes? I’d definitely call Aaron Rodgers an athlete first and foremost with everything else in life coming second. And the same rings true for a lot of people on his list.

Here’s Magic’s ‘top 60’ list of favorite movies:

Both Shaft and Shaft (2019) made this list but Shrek didn’t?! That kind of makes me want to disqualify the entire list. Again, he should’ve ranked these instead of just putting them in alphabetical order.

Some other interesting choices here are Iron Man without any mention of the other Avengers movies from Marvel. It has me wondering if he’s even seen Thor: Ragnarok or any of the Captain America films. He also chose to include Oceans Eleven but none of the sequels. Thoughts?
