Tom Holland and Tom Hollander don’t have much in common, except for a few key factors: they’re both British, they’re both actors, and, of course, their names differ by just two letters.

As a result of these simple similarities, a clerical mix-up led to the elder Hollander — known for his work on projects such as Pirates of the Caribbean and The White Lotus — receiving one of Holland’s bonus checks from Marvel Studios.

“I checked my email and I got one from the agency saying, ‘Payment slip for first box office bonus for The Avengers,'” Hollander explained on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

Despite thinking to himself “I don’t think I’m in The Avengers“, Hollander opened the email anyway and was greeted by “more money than he’d ever seen.”

“It was an astonishing amount of money. It was not his salary. It was his first box-office bonus. Not the whole box-office bonus, the first one. And it was more money than I’d ever [seen]. It was a seven-figure sum.”

While Hollander might not be making Spider-Man money, the veteran character actor is doing just fine as he has consistently starred in films, TV shows, and theatrical productions since the early 1990s.

Most recently, Hollander starred in the second season of the hit HBO anthology series The White Lotus. The most prominent role of his career so far is likely that of Lord Cutler Beckett in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, appearing in both Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

As for Holland, those Marvel checks are likely only to get larger as he becomes as more integral part of the MCU, with Spider-Man being one of the last remaining blue chips in the franchise following the death/retirement of Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark and Chris Evans’ Captain America.
