Marvel Officially Confirms Oscar Isaac As Moon Knight With A Hint At The Character’s Insane Backstory

Yes, Oscar Isaac has been linked to the lead role in Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight since October. And yes, Disney officially confirmed the series’ development during their Investors Day event. However, perhaps because there was T’s left to cross and I’s left to dot, Isaac’s name was not mentioned during that event, raising some questions about his casting.

Those doubts were ultimately squashed earlier this year, though, via a report from THR and training videos that saw the 42-year-old actor preparing for the series’ action scenes.

With production on the series likely nearly its conclusion, Marvel Studios has finally, OFFICIALLY confirmed Isaac’s casting with a simple tweet of an Isaac, posing for a self in front of classic Moon Knight comics, with the seemingly simple caption “WE ARE MOONKNIGHT”.

That caption, though, means far more than meets the eye, as it suggests that the series will be leaning into the character’s history of multiple personality disorder: in addition to his base personality, Spector has also been known to masquerade as millionaire entrepreneur Steven Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley. Together, they are Moon Knight.

The introduction of Moon Knight is certainly an exciting prospect for longtime fans of the MCU, as the character genuinely brings something new — something edgier, something darker — to the long-running, occasionally formulaic franchise.

Moon Knight, which began production in Budapest back in March, is set to hit Disney+ sometime in 2022. In addition to Isaac as Marc Spector/Moon Knight, the six-episode first season of Moon Knight will tantalizing star Ethan Hawke in an undisclosed villainous role and Ramy actress May Calamawy.
