A bombshell report about the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made it seem as though it’s more likely than not that Jonathan Majors’ time as the next “big bad” as the franchise is coming to an end.

Ever before he was arrested in March on allegations of domestic violence, the studio was reportedly considering pivoting to a villain such as Doctor Doom following the underwhelming performance, both critically and commercially, of February’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which served as Majors’ proper debut in the franchise.

Despite his upcoming court case in New York, Marvel Studios was unable to make any changes to the second season of Loki, which premiered in October and heavily features Majors as its antagonist.

According to the report from Variety, the upcoming season finale, which airs on November 9, only further positions Majors’ Kang as the next “big bad” of the MCU.

As a result, one insider who has seen the season two finale of Loki told Variety that “Marvel is truly f—— with the whole Kang angle.”

Kang the Conqueror was not only set to be the franchise’s primary antagonist over the next few years but was also set to be the villain of the next Avengers movie, 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Now, however, those plans are obviously in doubt.

The details of Majors’ legal troubles also paint a troubling picture, as his legal team is reportedly trying to keep details of the court case sealed despite Majors’ assertions that he’s innocent.

The next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe set to be released is The Marvels, which is hitting theaters on November 10 and is also set to be another misfire for the studio, as the film is currently tracking to make about $100M less than Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness did in its opening weekend in the spring of 2022.
