Footage from Ancón beach in Marbella, Spain showing a massive tuna charging the beach has gone viral. Many outlets are estimating the tuna to have weighed somewhere around 600 pounds which seems much heavier than what the fish looks like to me, but even if it was 250 pounds and displaying this behavior below it is quite startling.

The tuna could be seen kicking up water and charging the beach, sending swimmers fleeing onto the sand. Outlets reported a large tuna, presumably the same one, was found dead two days later.

Estimated 600-Pound Tuna Charges Beach In Spain

Imagine for a moment you are swimming in the beautiful waters of the Alboran Sea in the westernmost region of the Mediterranean. It is Summer. Heat waves have been relentlessly pummeling your town. And you finally seek refuge in the comfort of the water.

Then you see what appears to be an angry tuna the size of a personal submarine come angrily barreling toward you. Would you stay put or sprint out of the water? I know I’d be high tailing it out because I wouldn’t really be able to process what was happening in that moment.

According to reports, this all went down on August 10th and a large dead tuna was found on August 12th. The NYPost (who published the video above to YouTube) and other outlets are reporting that this tuna was an estimated 660 pounds. That seems like a massive stretch to me.

I’d put it at 350 pounds max. Don’t believe me? Google ‘300 pound tuna’ and compare it to the fishin this video. But hey, putting ‘660 pound tuna’ in a title or headline gets clicks even if it’s not correct, right?

Sadly, while the massive fish was turned back into the ocean it appears to have lost its life in the following hours. It remains unclear what killed the enormous tuna.

This is just the latest in a strange string of incidents in Europe involving tuna. A diver working at an offshore fish farm lost its life and it is being investigated whether or not the fish was responsible for the diver’s death.
