About a decade ago, Matthew McConaughey was on top of the world.
Thanks to performances in films such as The Lincoln Lawyer, Bernie, Killer Joe, Mud Magic Mike, and The Wolf of Wall Street the actor had effectively reshaped the perception of his acting abilities, as he was previously known for his roles in rom-com films.
McConaughey’s commitment to dramatic work culminated with the “McConnisance”, which was the moniker given to his career comeback that culminated with an Oscar win for Best Actor for his work in Dallas Buyers Club. He then followed that up with HBO’s True Detective, which ultimately proved to be a revolutionary TV series, and Interstellar, a modern sci-fi classic.
Since then, though, McConaughey’s career (at least in terms of his cinematic endeavors) has been… not great. Besides The Gentlemen, can you name a single movie he’s made in the last five years? Ten years?
Perhaps aware that his acting career is not what he wants it to be, McConaughey is making the jump back into television as he’s in talks to star in a sequel series to Yellowstone, which is set to conclude with its current fifth season.
Paramount has announced that the Kevin Costner-fronted Yellowstone will wrap its run with the upcoming second half of season five, which is set to premiere in November. It will be followed by an untitled sequel, from 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios, which has received a straight-to-series order for a December debut.
No talent has been announced for the new series but, as Deadline exclusively reported in February, Matthew McConaughey had been in talks for the project. We hear the Oscar winner remains in negotiations to star. [via Deadline]
Furthermore, reports indicate that a bevy of cast members from the original series will be making the jump to the sequel series with McConaughey.
At this time, it is unclear what character McConaughey would play, where the series would take place, and whether or not he’ll make his debut in the final episodes of Yellowstone.
