Former NFL player and ESPN radio host Mike Golic has had himself quite a year so far in 2020. After 20-plus years on the radio hosting shows like The Bruno-Golic Morning Show (ESPN Radio’s first morning show), Mike & Mike, and Golic and Wingo, ESPN decided his work there was done when they announced on July 9 that the company would be cancelling Golic’s show with Trey Wingo.

Golic’s wife, Christine, said he even pitched the idea of reuniting with longtime co-host Mike Greenberg, who is set to return to radio for ESPN, but the idea was rejected.

So it’s been a pretty terrible, no good year for the former nose tackle.

However, a recent announcement by Golic’s daughter Sydney that she just got engaged to Chicago Bears tight end Ben Braunecker will, as any father can tell you, is sure to brighten things up for him as he looks for a new job.

Sydney Golic, just like her dad and siblings, is a graduate of Notre Dame, class of 2016, where she majored in film, television and theatre, and competed in the backstroke and breaststroke for the Fighting Irish swim team.

“It’ll always be a yes for you. Best M💍nday ever,” Sydney wrote on Instagram on Monday.

If you’ve never heard of Ben Braunecker, you’re probably not alone. I follow the Bears and I hadn’t ever heard of him before today.

Turns out there’s a reason for that.

The 26-year-old Braunecker, who played his college ball at Harvard, has been with the Chicago Bears since signing with the team as a undrafted free agent in 2016. He’s played in just 47 games over his four seasons in the NFL and the most passes he’s caught in a single season for Chicago is 6 in 2019. In fact, he’s only been targeted 22 times in four years, so he’s been pretty easy to miss. He did score his only touchdown in 2019 though, against the Detroit Lions in week 10.

On the plus side, he’s still signed to play in 2020 for Chicago despite the fact that he’s not even listed as one of the top four tight ends on the team’s depth chart.

Congratulations to the happy couple.
