‘I’ve Been Doing This For A Year And I Have Never Been Hungover’: Virginia College Student Shares Drink Order Hack That Ensures You Won’t Get A Hangover

There’s nothing like a particularly gnarly hangover to have you swearing off alcohol for good. Sprawled in bed with the room spinning around you, the last thing you want to think about is having another drink. Still, you seem to forget the torture the next time your friends invite you out, leading to a cycle you can’t seem to break. There may be a solution to the hangover part, at least. One woman on TikTok is sharing a hack that may change the way folks party for good. All you need, she says, is a MiO.

What’s The Hangover Trick?

In a viral TikTok, Savhanna (@savannaaaaas) shared a trick she uses that always keeps her free from a hangover after a night of drinking.

“Putting you guys on to the healthiest drink order that you can get at the bars so you don’t get hungover and you also stay as healthy as possible,” Savhanna begins.

She explains how her best friend shared the hack with her weeks ago and how she has been using it since then. Instead of ordering typical sugary drinks, like a vodka sour, all she orders is vodka water instead.

The trick lies in a product that you bring with you.

“Pick out your favorite flavor of MiO at the store,” she advises. “Put the MiO in your purse when you go out so you’re taking it with you to every single bar.”

At the bar, Savannah says you must order a vodka water. Then you squeeze the MiO of your choice into the water. This, she says, contains no sugars or calories, preventing you from getting a hangover the next day while providing a nice taste to the drink.

“Healthiest bar order you can get,” she concludes.

What Is MiO?

MiO is an enhancer designed to get people to drink more water by adding flavor to plain water. They are sugar-free and calorie-free, the former of which helps in avoiding a hangover, Savhanna says. There are many options, with some including vitamins, electrolytes, or even caffeine. And while they are considered “safe” for consumption, their additives have been somewhat controversial.

According to Healthline, two of the artificial sweeteners—Ace-K and sucralose—MiO uses “have been shown to affect blood sugar and insulin levels and disrupt the gut microbiome.” However, it does state that the stevia one has “potential health benefits.”

What Do Viewers Think Of Her Hangover Trick?

While many appreciated Savhanna’s life hack, some were already familiar with it—but not all had a positive experience.

“Dangerous,” one user wrote. “Last time I did this I was puking bright red mio.” A few others also shared how they threw up after the hack, possibly because they drank more due to the taste of the drinks. Because of this, several called it a “dangerous drink.”

“I’ve been doing this FOREVER,” one shared. “And it is so dangerous I’ve thrown up so often.”

Others did confirm that this prevented hangovers, proving Savhanna’s trick. “Ive been doing this for a year and I have never been hungover doing it,” one said.

One woman says she uses it for events where having tons of energy and partying go hand in hand: “Yes, girl! We do this for festivals so that we don’t feel super hung over the next day and we can keep going.”
