Miriam Nakamoto has not fought professionally since 2013, no thanks to a nagging grade 3 lesion on her knee’s meniscus cartilage. The eight-time Muay Thai world champion is a perfect 16-0 in kickboxing competition, and at 42 years old, her window to compete again is closing quickly.

The Queen of Mean’s six year hiatus from the sport could finally be coming to an end, thanks to comedian and UFC commentator, Joe Rogan. Nakamoto recently shared a text message exchange between in which Rogan offered to foot the bill on stem cell therapy from the renowned Dr. Neil Riordan.

So …this happened today. I’m struggling to find the words. I’ve been trying to make a comeback for almost 6 years now. I’ve come close a few times. But I kept having difficulty with my knee. There’s not much to be down with a grade 3 lesion on a meniscus besides stem cell therapy. I didn’t have $30,000 so I did the best that I could, but I still always came up short. And then this happens today. I’m still in shock. Thank you @joerogan. See you soon Dr. Riordan! 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️#besthumanever#dreamsdocometrue #speechless#secondchance #blessed #grateful#letsgochamp

In a January 2018 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Rogan brought on Mel Gibson and Dr. Reardon to speak about the stem cell therapy that saved Gibson’s father’s life.

At 92, Poppa Gibson was experiencing a litany of health issues (heart, kidneys, hip, lungs). After bringing his father to the world-famous Mayo Clinic and fearing that procedures like a hip replacement would be too much for a 92-year-old to bounce back from, Gibson flew his father to Panama, where a law passed in 2004 allows medical professionals to use stem cells from umbilical cords as treatment (there are currently stem cell clinical trials in the U.S., but it’s not broadly available.

Reardon, who uses intravenous stem cell therapy mostly for patients with auto-immune diseases, claims that the cutting-edge procedures modulate one’s immune system, decrease inflammation, stimulate regeneration.

That was nearly 8 years ago. Gibson claims his father is nearly 100, has a “new lease on life,” and is even out of his wheelchair. His cognitive powers improves. His eyesight improved. He even got boners again!

It will be amazing to see how the therapy takes to Nakamoto’s body and if it will be more a more common method of treatment going forward.

Matt’s love of writing was born during a sixth grade assembly when it was announced that his essay titled “Why Drugs Are Bad” had taken first prize in D.A.R.E.’s grade-wide contest. The anti-drug people gave him a $50 savings bond for his brave contribution to crime-fighting, and upon the bond’s maturity 10 years later, he used it to buy his very first bag of marijuana.
