I’ve spent my entire life messing up song lyrics. I’m not going to type out examples here because I could legitimately spend all day talking about the shit wrong lyrics I’ve sung and nobody wants to spend their day reading about how much of a jackass I am. But, it’s nice to know I’m not alone in messing up lyrics on the regular.
On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy got a bunch of fans to tweet about the songs they’ve sung the wrong lyrics to using the hashtag #MisheardLyrics. Some highlights include ‘I’m just a pool boy, nobody loves me / He’s just a pool boy from a pool family’ and a supreme botching of ‘Up All Night To Get Lucky’.
If you’re like me and you sing the wrong lyrics to pretty much every song ever written it’s important that you know you’re not alone. There are millions of us out there. Accents can make a song indecipherable. Cadence, pitch, mumbling. These are all barriers holding us back from singing along with the artists. And they are all things that have inevitably caused us to look like massive jackasses at some point in our lives. So rest easy tonight knowing that you aren’t the only one.
