Just a year after virtually saving movie theaters with the release of Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise is back again this summer with the seventh film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, Dead Reckoning Part One.

And according to early reviews of the film, which premiered in Rome earlier this week, Cruise has delivered another blockbuster action epic of the highest order.

While only a handful of journalists have screened the film (personally, I’ll be seeing it next Wednesday), all signs point to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One being another epic entry in an action franchise that’s currently considered to be Hollywood’s best.

A review from a writer at Collider says that the film is “another winner for the franchise” and “the production value is THROUGH THE ROOF with some of the most well-defined and exhilarating set pieces photographed in ways that truly make you feel like you’re in the middle of the action.”

A review from a Screenrant writer says that Dead Reckoning Part One is “phenomenal” and his “favorite Mission: Impossible film.” He also noted that newcomer Haley Atwell steals every scene she’s in.

The film critic over an io9 says the film is fantastic and boasts a “dynamite, timely story, excellent new characters, a huge variety of action and a final set piece that ranks top 2-3 all-time for the franchise.”

This tweet from a Fandango writer says that Dead Reckoning is “an impeccably made action film that does not stop entertaining” and that “each action sequence is long, crazy, and intense.”

In addition to Tom Cruise as legendary IMF agent Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, stars Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Shea Whigham, Pom Klementieff, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Henry Czerny, and Cary Elwes. The film will hit movie theaters in the United States on Friday, July 12.
