A Missouri woman went to a bar, only to complain about drinks on her tab. Here's whether she got those refunded.
A Missouri nightclub owner received a request to remove some drinks from a woman’s tab. The woman, he said, told him that she never ordered the drinks in the first place. But after some sleuthing, he realized she was dead wrong.
A content creator named Pierce Evans (@evans_pierce) posted a video that received more than 799,000 views. In it, he says that a woman approached him with a concern regarding additional charges on her tab. He says she told him the bartender must have added the drinks. But Evans begged to differ.
The content creator says that he pulled out the receipts—camera footage and the transaction history—to prove his point.
The Dispute
Evans tells his audience that a woman came to the bar and told him that a “bartender was adding additional drinks on her tab that she did not pay for.” She reportedly tried to discuss the charges with the bartender. He says she then asked a host about the charges, and the host got Evans to look at the bill.
Evans says the tab was around $35 more than the woman expected. He says she told him she only ordered “two drinks and two shots.” Her tab, on the other hand, listed four drinks, two beers, and two shots. He says he pulled up the footage from the evening.
“I look at the cameras, and sure enough, I see her come up; she orders two drinks and two shots for her and her friend. They take those. … Twenty-five minutes later, she comes up with another friend who gets the two beers, and she tells the bartender to just put it on my tab, so he does,” Evans explains.
He adds that she ordered two additional vodka cranberries, explaining the total.
So he told her she did, in fact, ask for the drinks. That led to an argument. The woman, Evans says, told him that she doesn’t “drink that much.” He describes her as “argumentative,” with the pair going back-and-forth.
Evans says he told her he would “review” the footage one more time. But he says he didn’t end up removing any charges. Instead, he says he charged her exactly what “was on her tab.”
‘The Gaslighting Is Crazy’
Commenters joked about the situation that unfolded, with some even saying that the woman tried to gaslight Evans.
“She’s right. SHE doesn’t drink that much, but she paid for other people’s drinks,” one viewer said.
Others, however, thought that the woman was following a deliberate tactic. “She does this all the time, and usually it works,” another assumed.
Another commenter replied, “Yup, my mom has perfected the ‘annoy until they cave’ tactic, and it’s wild to see it in action.”

Is ‘Annoy Until They Cave’ A Real Thing?
Unfortunately, complaining until a bartender or server removes something from one’s tab is a genuine strategy scammers use to get cheaper meals and drinks, per Pen & Spoon. The publication notes that writing false reviews, completely consuming a food or beverage item before complaining, or even deliberately tampering with food to make it seem inedible are all tactics that have affected small businesses.
The common thread—annoying a person of authority until they have no choice but to quell the situation—is a scourge for many hospitality workers. And even if a bar has video evidence, such as in Evans’ circumstance, there’s still the possibility the customer might write a bad review or commit “friendly fraud” by saying they never received a meal or beverage in the first place.
