These Are The Most (And Least) Expensive Airports In America, So Book Your Flights Accordingly

I’m the type of traveler who will put himself through extreme misery to save a few bucks. I’ll book the 6am flight at an airport that’s 90-minutes away if it’s $150 less than the noon flight at the airport down the street because (1) I’m an idiot and (2) my frugal parents conditioned me into always trying to ‘get a deal’ when booking travel. I inevitably regret booking early flights every single time I do it, but when it comes time to book another flight I still find myself sorting by price.

If you’re like me, then you’ll probably want to take notice of the ‘5 Least Expensive Airports in America’ below. If you don’t give a flying fart about a couple bucks here or there when booking travel, then you might still be interested in the list of the ‘5 Most Expensive Airports in America’. This data comes from RewardExpert, who releases an annual list of the most/least expensive airports in America using data from a wide variety of sources. Here’s what this year’s list looks like:

The Most Expensive Airports In America (2017)

1. Newark Liberty International Airport
2. John F. Kennedy International Airport
3. Washington Dulles International Airport
4. Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport
5. Los Angeles International Airport

The Least Expensive Airports In America (2017)

1. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
2. McCarran International Airport
3. Orlando International Airport
4. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
5. Tampa International Airport

I’m not at all shocked to see LAX, Washington Dulles, and JFK on that list of the most expensive. But, I am somewhat surprised to see Newark on that list because I consistently find the cheapest flights to NYC from Florida into Newark or LaGuardia, it’s about 50/50.

I’m also not surprised at all to see Tampa, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale on the 5 cheapest airports. Any time I’ve flown internationally over the past 3 years it’s been out of those three airports and each time my tickets were extremely reasonable. McCarran though? It’s expensive a shit to fly to Vegas these days unless you’re flying from California. I don’t get how that airport makes the list.
