Woman Is At South Carolina’s Myrtle Beach When She Spots Something Unusual Moving Extremely Fast In The Water: ‘What Is That?’

A Myrtle Beach visitor has sparked reactions on TikTok after filming an unusual sight in the water.

In a video that has garnered over 2.5 million views, creator @thesanchezfamilyof5 zooms in on the ocean and follows a fast-moving object.

“Y’all, what is that?” a woman can be heard saying behind the camera. “It’s like far out in the ocean, and it’s going fast as [expletive].”

In the comments section, viewers immediately started coming up with theories about what it could possibly be.

“Sailfish,” one person wrote. “They can move 60+ mph. He’s probably just cruising.”

“Not a single person said a Submarine,” wrote another.

What Could It Be?

The Atlantic Ocean is home to many fast-moving fish. According to Dip ‘N Dive, ocean fish take advantage of the higher viscosity of water compared to air and use their torpedo-shaped bodies to swim at incredible speeds.

One of the fastest fish out there is the sailfish, which can reach speeds of up to 65 miles per hour. It can grow to around 9.8 feet in length and often does not weigh more than 200 pounds.

While that’s the fish viewers immediately guessed the TikToker witnessed, it could also be another type of fast-moving fish that is present in the Atlantic Ocean.

For example, Dip ‘N Dive also lists fish like marlin, which can reach speeds of 50 miles per hour; the wahoo, which can go as fast as 48 miles per hour; and bluefin tuna, which can reach around 43 miles per hour.

As for the submarine theory, it would be very uncommon for one to come that close to shore. Submarines typically require depths of around 200 meters to operate properly, according to a report by the U.S. Naval Institute.

In the comments section, many viewers joked about what the object could be.

“It’s David Hasselhoff carrying SpongeBob and Patrick,” one person wrote.

“You couldn’t get in the water to get a close up for us? Kinda sailfish of you,” another said.

Others, however, wondered if it could be something more ominous.

“That is a USO. Unidentified Swimming Object,” one commenter wrote.

“I live here and I recently seen someone else post same type of video & they to know nothing about (Ai) or how it works and in the video it looked same as it is in this video ..Strange things happening here lately in Ocean lately..,” another shared.
