AppleTV+ has dropped the first official trailer for Napoleon, the latest film from legendary Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott, who remains prolific as ever despite now being 85 years old.

Napoleon stars Academy Award-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role of Napoleon Bonaparte, the infamous early 19th-century Emperor of France.

Directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by David Scarpa, “Napoleon” stars Joaquin Phoenix as the French emperor and military leader. The film is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. The film captures Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.

In addition to the Oscar-winning Phoenix as Napoleon, the film also stars Academy Award-nominated actress Vanessa Kirby as Josephine Bonaparte, Tahar Rahim, Ben Miles, Ludivine Sagnier, Matthew Needham, Youssef Kerkour, Phil Cornwell, Paul Rhys, and more.

The film is currently scheduled to hit movie theaters in the United States on Wednesday, November 22 before it begins streaming on AppleTV+ at a later date.

Napoleon is one of two films that Phoenix will star in this year, as he also led Ari Aster’s bizarre horror-comedy Beau Is Afraid, which was released back in April to mixed reviews.

Next year, Phoenix will be returning to the role that won him his Oscar as he’s set to reprise his role as Gotham City’s Clown Prince of Crime in Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie a Deux, which will also feature Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.

Currently, Joker: Folie a Deux — which also stars Brenden Gleeson, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey — is scheduled to release on October 4, 2024.
