“Some people have all the luck” is more than just a saying. It’s absolutely, 100 percent true. It’s why most of us have no luck whatsoever when it comes to things like winning the lottery or other unexpected good fortune.
The latest example that proves it is more than just something people say occurred recently in New Jersey. A couple who lives in Ocean County recently won a $3 million lottery prize. Pretty lucky, right?
Well, it involved more luck than 99 percent of the world will ever experience. That’s because their $3 million lottery win came less than 6 months after they won $1 million in another lottery drawing!
“Winning the top prize in a lottery game, any lottery game, is a once-in-a-lifetime event… for most people,” the New Jersey Lottery wrote in a press release announcing the win, adding, “One New Jersey couple aren’t like most people.” Thank you, Captain Obvious.
“With our kids, we can’t really get out of the house,” the husband said. “So, at the beginning of the month, we get some (Scratch-Off) tickets. When the kids go to bed, we scratch a few off. We like to make it a bit of a competition, who can win the most. It seems we at least always break even.”
After winning, again, he told his wife, “Babe, we got luck on our side.”
The odds of winning the two million-dollar-plus lottery prizes are astronomical
On April 1 of this year, the couple with two children and a third on the way won the $1 million top prize in the $1,000,000 Ultimate Spectacular. Their second big payout of $3 million came courtesy of a winning Jackpot Millions Scratch-Off ticket.
According to the New Jersey Lottery, the odds of winning one of the three top prizes in the Jackpot Millions game are roughly 1 in 2 million. The odds of winning the $1 million top prize back in April were more than 1 in 1 million. The combined odds of winning both lotteries are roughly 1 in 2 trillion!
“For comparison’s sake, a player would be 1.2 million times more likely to be hit by a meteorite,” the New Jersey Lottery wrote.
“This is just pure blind luck,” said New Jersey Lottery Director James Carey, again stating the obvious.
