Nick Reiner was disciplined in jail for an incident that occurred in the shower
Nick Reiner, the son of director Rob Reiner, who has been charged with the murder of his parents, has been disciplined in jail after becoming “extremely hostile” during an incident in the shower. Reiner is facing two charges of first-degree murder.
According to reports, Nick Reiner was involved in an incident with jail guards while awaiting escort from the shower to his cell.
The 32-year-old is currently being housed alone in a specialized medical observation unit under heightened security inside Tower 1 of Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Correctional Facility.

At around 8:15 a.m. on April 27, Reiner had reportedly finished showering and changed into fresh county-issued clothing when deputies were delayed in escorting him back to his cell because they were busy responding to another inmate’s apparent overdose.
People reported that Reiner became hostile and began “screaming, using profane language and directing hostile remarks at both a sheriff and a sergeant” for their delay in escorting him back to his cell.
“He was recalcitrant, extremely hostile, creating a verbal disturbance, refusing to follow rules and not listening to any commands,” a source told People.
“He was yelling, screaming, being disrespectful and shouting many profanities.” The confrontation never became physical, but backup was called and approximately three additional guards responded. Reiner received a formal write-up and lost phone, visitation, and commissary privileges for five days.
As a result of the incident, Reiner was issued a disciplinary write-up for allegedly violating jail rules and lost several inmate privileges — such as phone calls, visitation and commissary access — for five days.
A source described the outburst as an “outlier,” however, and said that Reiner has “largely adjusted” to life behind bars. Despite that, though, Reiner’s mental state — he’d been receiving treatment for schizophrenia before allegedly murdering his parents — has “continued to deteriorate.”
“Lately, he’s not been doing very well. He’s been struggling inside jail,” a source said.
“Reiner has spent seven months in near-total isolation — eating all three meals alone, under 24-hour camera surveillance, with welfare checks every 15 minutes. Until July 27, he had not received a single personal visitor outside of his attorneys.”
Reiner was arrested in December 2025 following the stabbing deaths of his parents — director Rob Reiner and producer-photographer Michele Singer Reiner — at their Brentwood home.
Rob Reiner was the director of iconic films such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men. His run from Stand by Me in 1986 through A Few Good Men in 1992 is widely considered to be one of the best runs of consecutive films a director has ever had.
In February, Reiner pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances. If convicted, he could face life without parole or the death penalty.
Having waived his right to a speedy trial, Reiner is next due in court on September 15 for a preliminary hearing, during which prosecutors will present evidence before the judge decides whether it’s enough to warrant a trial.
