Nick Reiner has been officially indicted for the murder of his parents
Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of late actor, writer, producer and director Rob Reiner, has been formally indicted by a Los Angeles grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of his parents. Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead in their home on December 14, 2025.
Nick Reiner, who was arrested shortly after the killings and has been held without bail at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, has been indicted on charges of murdering his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner. The trio were reportedly seen arguing at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party the night of their murder.
Prosecutors are reportedly aiming to expedite the process of getting to a trial, which Nick awaits alone in a medical observation unit under 24-hour surveillance. Reiner had been receiving treatment for schizophrenia before his parents’ deaths and was initially placed on suicide watch following his arrest.

“This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing,” District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a statement. “We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice.”
The grand jury indictment added two significant special circumstance allegations: multiple murders and murder by lying in wait, which means that prosecutors will not have to put on evidence at a preliminary hearing and can skip straight to a trial, and that Reiner is eligible for the death penalty and life without parole. Personal use of a deadly weapon was also included in the indictment.
Prosecutors have not yet indicated their intent in regards to pursuing the death penalty. While no trial date has been set, Reiner entered a not guilty plea and has a pretrial hearing scheduled for Tuesday, September 15.
Ron Reiner, who was 78 years old, was a veteran Hollywood actor, writer, director and producer, who was best known for directing the films This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men.
