The average Dunkin’ location sells hundreds of donuts every day, and one store in Ohio called for all hands on deck after receiving an order for 6,000. However, it ended up giving most of them away after discovering the person who placed it only wanted a tiny fraction of that amount.

It’s been more than 75 years since the chain formerly known as “Dunkin’ Donuts” opened its first outpost in Massachusetts, which spawned an international culinary empire that currently boasts around 14,200 stores around the globe.

As of 2018, the chain that rebranded to Dunkin’ the following year was selling more than 2.9 billion donuts and Munchkins on an annual basis. Based on those numbers, that means the average store moves around 590 of those items each day, although employees at some locations say they stock more than 1,000 when they open for business.

One Dunkin’ in Ohio recently prepared significantly more than that after receiving a sizable online order, and people in the area ended up reaping the benefits when it staged a giveaway after discovering there was a bit of a miscommunication.

A Dunkin’ in Ohio rallied to make 6,000 donuts before learning the person who placed the order only wanted 60

According to WHIO, a Dunkin’ on Woodman Drive in the Dayton suburb of Riverside, Ohio received an online order for a customer who seemingly wanted 6,000 donuts with chocolate frosting and sprinkles on Thursday, September 17th.

However, they managed to add two extra zeros to an order that was only supposed to be for 60 of them, and that oversight somehow failed to come to anyone’s attention before the store in question successfully fulfilled the request.

The manager decided the best course of action was to give them away, and extra employees were called in to work to handle the influx of customers who flocked to the location to take advantage of the mix-up after the news spread on social media.

People who arrived at the store where greeted by the donuts sitting on a table next to a sign that read “FREE, PLZ” while inviting them to take “as many as you want,” but it’s unclear how many were remaining by the time the day game to an end.
