A man reveals what happened to his friend after ordering a water at the bar. Spoiler alert: He was cut off and kicked out.
A man says his friend was cut off and kicked out of a bar—all for ordering a simple water. Here’s what happened.
TIkTok creator Kilian Ranger (@kilianranger) posted a video with his PSA. “If you go out of your way to order just a water, you are at risk of getting yourself cut off,” he says.
How can ordering a water at the bar put you at risk of getting kicked out? Ranger explains, “I was out with my buddies the other night, and one of my buddies … went up [and] he just got a water.”
Cut Off And Kicked Out After Ordering A Water
According to Ranger, the bartender appeared to give his friend an attitude for not purchasing alcohol, but they didn’t think too much of the interaction.
That is until about 20 minutes later when another friend grabbed the group a round of beers. The friend who’d taken a water break decided to grab a beer.
“And then a bouncer comes up and he says, ‘Yeah, your boy got cut off 20 minutes ago. He’s gotta get kicked out right now because he grabbed another beer.’ And it was basically just because he ordered that water,” Ranger says.
Ranger is warning others to watch how they order water at the bar. “That bartender is actually a loser for that,” Ranger says. “You are a loser for cutting off a kid just for being responsible. But this is just a friendly reminder: If you are going to order a water, be careful.”
Can Ordering Water At The Bar Lead To Being Cut Off?
In the comments section of the video, one segment of viewers took Ranger’s PSA at face value.
“Bartenders shouldn’t care about giving away water, lmao,” wrote one person. “When I was a bartender, if someone asked for water I wouldn’t think twice.”
“People need to be drinking more water while they’re out,” a second person said.
“If I start ordering later, that’s me cutting myself off,” a third person said.
Others questioned whether there is potentially more to the story. “This is not true,” wrote one.
A second person said, “Never seen that happen.”
Bartenders Weigh In On The Ordering Water Debate
In this Facebook post to the TipsyBartender group, bartenders discussed this exact debate. “Bartender here … YES on the water,” wrote one person. “I’ll keep it flowing all night.”
“It will not make you more sober, but it will slow down the amount of alcohol you are drinking,” a second person said.
In this Reddit thread posted to r/bartenders four years ago, bartenders revealed what makes them cut someone off at the bar. “If you’re visibly intoxicated, slurring your words, having trouble with balance,” one wrote. “The bartender’s job is to control the party. We don’t want people getting out of control, so when we see the signs that it’s coming, we stop serving.”
