How do you ring in the new year? A boring old countdown? Kissing your girlfriend as the clock strikes 12 am on January 1st? Blowing that godawful plastic kazoo that sounds like a duck getting run over and splattered by an M1 Abrams tank? Phil Collins has a better way to ring in 2018, by air drumming his classic song “In the Air Tonight.” The idea came from the “Start off your new year right” meme, which might be the last popular meme of 2017.

Phil Collins jumped in on the “Start off your new year right” meme and arguabably won with his idea to air drum in 2018 with his iconic song “In the Air Tonight.” “If you play ‘In the Air Tonight’ by Phil Collins on December 31st at 11:56:40 the drum break will play right as the clock strikes midnight,” the former Genesis frontman and drummer tweeted. “Start off your new year right.”

We’re all for air drumming in the new year and we’re sure Mike Tyson is down.

What else are you gonna do at the strike of midnight? Be an obnoxious asshole and blow those annoying AF kazoos? Don’t be that person. Be a proper gentleman and air drum the fuck outta “In the Air Tonight.”
