Anyone who has seen the animated films Bolt or Valiant, knows just how shifty pigeons can be.

Always with the wise cracks and bullying, they’re trouble with wings.

However, no one has ever accused a pigeon of being a spy, right? Wait… actually, they have. A lot. And with good reason.

The CIA has tried using them during the Cold War, and during World War I, pigeons were fitted with tiny cameras and released over enemy territory.

The latest pigeon to be accused of espionage was taken into custody and detained by authorities for eight months!

According to Radio Free Asia, this particular pigeon was taken into custody in May of 2023 in the Chembur suburb of Mumbai, India.

It was accused of being a spy for China because of two rings tied to its legs with words on them that appeared to be Chinese.

After eight months in pigeon prison, the bird was deemed to be innocent and finally released on Tuesday.

It turns out that it was just an open-water racing pigeon from Taiwan which had escaped and flown to India.

The pigeon’s current whereabouts are unknown.

In March of last year, two other pigeons were also captured in in the eastern Odisha state of India.

One of them reportedly had devices on its leg which appear to be a camera and a microchip. Those two birds are said to still be under investigation.

The most nefarious pigeon in recent memory was captured at a prison in British Columbia.

It was there that prison officials caught a pigeon re-handed in the yard wearing a “backpack” with crystal meth inside of it.

This type of thing has apparently been going on for over 100 years.

Of course, as everyone knows by now, birds, especially pigeons, aren’t real. They’re really just the next evolution in spy drones.
