October has arrived. The air is crips. Spooky Season is here. Pumpkins are out. My 12ft skeleton is up in the front yard. And neighbors are already stressing about how much Halloween candy to buy for trick-or-treaters even though we’re over 4 weeks away from All Hallows’ Eve.

Every year around here we discuss the most popular Halloween candies in America and this year is no different. In the past, we have attempted to rank the best/worst based on personal preferences but today we are looking at the 10 most popular Halloween candies of 2025 based on actual sales of the candies themselves.

The 10 Most Popular Halloween Candies Of 2025

October is the most popular month of the year for candy and it’s not even close. That is driven almost entirely by Halloween, the one day candy extravaganza. This data has hit the Internet by way of Instacart who has tracked candy sales in years past and in 2025.

I have to admit, faith in my fellow Americans has been restored seeing this data because the top 10 most popular candies sold so far this year are legit, or at least 9 of the 10 are. Let’s check out the list, counting down from 10 to 1.

10. Haribo Goldbears

Haribo Goldbears are S-Tier for me. They might be ranked 10th among the most popular Halloween candies of 2025 in America but for me, all Haribo gummies are #1.

Above is my haul from the last time I was in Iceland. One of the first things I do when visiting a new country is hit a bodega or grocery store to load up on the local flavors of Haribo gummies. These were phenomenal. I could’ve done without the bananas but the rest were excellent.

9. Twix

The name Twix is derived from ‘Twin Sticks’ and everyone knows that Twix is sold in pairs. It’s chocolate paired with caramel and biscuit bars in a way that works together in perfect harmony.

They used to be sold in Europe under the name ‘Raider’ which is honestly just a strange name for a Halloween candy but that’s neither here nor there because they rebranded to make ‘Twix’ the global standard back in 1991. It is only a matter of time before they REALLY lean hard back into the ‘Left vs Right’ Twix bar campaign given the political schisms in recent years. At #9 on the list of the most popular Halloween candies this year, Twix should probably be ranked 1-3 spots closer to #1.

8. Milky Way

The Milky Way remains underrated every year in my opinion. You’ve got the light chocolate and dark chocolate versions, and the extra dark chocolate. Then they mix up the flavors on the inside. I’m honestly getting hungry just thinking about it.

I tend to always reach for the dark chocolate Milky Way first. They’re divine. Everyone knows this and that’s why they are ranked 8th among the most popular Halloween candies this year. I also find that in the big variety bags to pass out to trick-or-treaters that Milky Way mini bars are always paired with the best candies. It’s top tier.

7. Hershey’s Milk Chocolate

This is the only one of the ten most popular Halloween candies this year that I firmly disagree with. Not because Hershey’s Milk Chocolate isn’t good. It is. I love it. But it’s so boring for Halloween. It is just straight chocolate and Halloween is a time for being extra.

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate debuted in 1900 from Milton S. Hershey. They call it a candy bar which feels wrong, it’s just chocolate. Incredible chocolate to be sure. But not a candy bar IMHO.

6. Sour Patch Kids

When it comes to Halloween candy, I always prefer sour gummies. SPKs are the gold standard of sour gummies. Green and Yellow are the best flavors and that is not up for debated.

They are the 6th most popular Halloween candy this year. Their original name was ‘Mars Men’ and I think we are all thankful they ditched that and rebranded back in 1985. In France, they are named “Very Bad Kids” which kind of rocks too.

5. Snickers

Is there a more iconic candy bar than Snickers? That’s a rhetorical question because obviously there isn’t. The bar was named after the Mars family’s favorite horse, Snickers, and it has been the G.O.A.T since Day 1.

The Snickers bar was first launched in America in 1930 for just $0.05/bar. Snickers ‘Fun Size’ was launched back in 1968 which seems way ahead of its time.

Each bar contains, on average, 16 peanuts. And everyone knows when you’re not yourself it’s because you’re hungry and you should reach for a Snickers. Do you have one on hand right now? No. But it’s the 5th most popular Halloween candy of 2025 so your pantry will be flush with Snickers bars soon enough.

4. Kit Kat Bars

Kit Kat Bars are delicious but honestly they’ve been punching above their weight class for decades. Would you tell me that you’d rather have Kit Kats than all of the others most popular Halloween candies ranked 10th through 5th?

I’m convinced they’re just easy to bundle with other more delicious candies and that keeps raising their profile year after year. The original name was Kit Kat Chocolate Crisp and it was launched in 1937. That’s a lot to put on a label.

Their whole concept of ‘breaking’ them apart and sharing has always made it popular with crowds.

3. Traditional M&M’s

Traditional M&M’s are on the Mt. Rushmore of Candy and not because they are my favorite but because they represent a gold standard in candy. They rank 3rd among the most popular Halloween candies of 2025 which comes as no surprise. They are delicious, easy to track down, and a reliable candy to pass out. Nobody is ever angry when they receive M&M’s.

2. Peanut M&M’s

What can you say about Peanut M&M’s? They’re vastly superior to the original M&M’s. Adding a peanut inside that hard candy shell was arguably the smartest thing Mars has ever done as a company.

The original name, M&M, stands for Mars and Murrie (Forrest Mars and Bruce Murrie). The addition of a honey roasted peanut M&M in 2025 was a few decades too late. If you haven’t had those yet, do yourself a favor and pick some up because they are divine.

1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

Coming in at #1 among the most popular Halloween candies of 2025 are the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. These are GOAT’ed. It is not up for debate.

They were originally named ‘penny cups’ and when they launched in 1928 by the man H.B. Reese himself they only cost a penny each. These cups come in all shapes and sizes, each as delicious as the next.

I actually had some last weekend on the golf course and threw them in the cooler so they were ice cold in the brutal Florida sun. 10 out of 10. America is making good choices this year.
