ranking the toughest eating challenges in the Northeast

The Northeast is home to some of the best diners in the United States and at those diners can be found some of the toughest eating challenges on planet earth. Today we are ranking 15 of the most brutal eating challenges in the Northeast region.

Next week I will tackle the Great Lakes region followed by the Pacific Northwest, Southwest, Texas, and then finish it off by ranking the toughest eating challenges in the South. But it all starts right here with 15 brutal food challenges and the accompanying videos.

Ranking 15 of the Toughest Eating Challenges in the Northeast

Inevitably, some eating challenge from your hometown or the adjacent town did not make this list. I’m sure you will let me know about it in the comments. If you feel like there’s an eating challenge that absolutely must be added here then drop it in the comments and I’ll consider adding it but for now we are rolling with these 15. Let’s get to it! Up first is a burger that most people couldn’t consume in a week…

1. 18,000 Calorie Burger Challenge

The 18,000 calorie burger eating challenge is located at Eagle’s Deli in Boston, Massachusetts. Challengers have to eat all 12lbs of meat with 24 slices of bacon, 24 slices of cheese, and 5 pounds of fries within the one hour time limit.

2. Oceanside Sandwich Shop’s Monstah Sandwich

The Monstah Sandwich at Oceanside Sandwich Shop in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire is a beast. Challengers get 53 minutes to finish it and should the down the sandwich in time the meal is free.

3. Chez Vachon Grand Poutine

The Chez Vachon Grand Poutine in Manchester, New Hampshire is an intimidating 5-pound plate of poutine, fries covered in gravy with cheese curds. Competitors get 60 minutes to devour the plate and should they succeed the meal is free, they get a spot on the the Chez Vachon Wall of Fame, and a commemorative t-shirt or hat.

On the plate there is 2.5 pounds of french fries, 1 pound of cheese curds, and 1.5 pounds of gravy.

4. Mister Bagel’s Breakfast Pizza

This challenge is just down the road from me at the moment and I’m tempted to give it a go. Challengers have 30 minutes to eat the 5-pound breakfast pizza at Mister Bagel’s in Portland, Maine that is topped with bacon, sausage, ham, scrambled eggs, and homemade cream cheese.

Those unfortunate souls who finish the 5lb pizza in under 30 minutes receive the breakfast pizza for free, a $100 cash prize, picture on the restaurant’s Wall of Fame, and a free t-shirt. Competitive eaters have downed it in 11 minutes so 30 should be plenty for the rest of us, right?!

5. Papa Pete’s Monster Pancake

On the surface, this one is only 3 pancakes. That seems totally doable, right? Well, they are each 14-inch pancakes and the total weight of the challenge is between 6-8 pounds.

Winners who down the three pancakes in Bennington, Vermont receive the meal for free, a congratulatory t-shirt, and a $40 prize. There is no official time limit for this challenge but challengers cannot leave the table or take long breaks at the table, they mut be actively eating throughout.

Normally, they only sell the pizza to two people because it’s that big.

11. New York’s Biggest Sandwich

At Sarge’s Delicatessen and Diner in NYC there is a 6-pound sandwich with 5 different types of meat known simply as New York’s Biggest Sandwich. Frankly, I’m shocked that Katz’s Deli or Carnegie Deli isn’t offering a bigger sandwich but this one claims the title of being the biggest. If someone finishes it in one sitting they receive a free t-shirt for their accomplishment.

12. Swingelly’s Brutal BBQ Challenge

Putting the word ‘Brutal’ in any food challenge is never a good sign. The Swingelly’s Brutal BBQ Challenge out in Long Beach, Long Island has a 60 minute time limit and it includes ribs, wings, brisket, pulled pork, turkey, rib tips, cornbread, mac & cheese, and collard greens.

It also has 5 different types of pickles and two sides.

15. Brick Lane Curry House Phaal Challenge

Located throughout several locations in NYC, the Brick Lane Curry House offers up a Phaal Challenge of the spiciest curry on earth. Of all the eating challenges on this list this is the only one I’ve tasted. We ordered a bowl of the Phaal Curry on the side just to try it and honestly, I think I could complete this challenge. It aligned with my spice preference. Winners receive a spot on the Wall of Fame after completing the bowl.
