Richard Lewis, who has been appearing on the hit HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm since it began all the way back in 1999, recently detailed how much he couldn’t stand Larry David when they first met.

During a recent interview with Britain’s Spectator magazine, Lewis — who was born just three days before David at the same hospital he was delivered in — explained how he “intensely disliked” David when they first crossed paths as children at camp.

“I disliked him intensely. He was cocky, he was arrogant. When we played baseball, I tried to hit him with the ball: we were arch-rivals. I couldn’t wait for the camp to be over just to get away from Larry. I’m sure he felt the same way,” Lewis recalled, via Deadline.

Some years later, however, Lewis and David ran into each other as a result of them both being members of the New York City comedy scene and were able to build a decades-long friendship.

“I looked at his face and I said, ‘There’s something about you, man, that spooks me.’” David replied, “You’re Richard Lewis!” “You’re Larry David!”

After rekindling their friendship, Lewis would not only go on to appear in the original Curb Your Enthusiasm TV movie but would also make another 41 appearances on the long-running HBO comedy, which is currently gearing up for its twelfth and final season.

While Lewis was only able to appear in one episode of Curb Your Enthusiam‘s eleventh season due to health issues — earlier this year, he announced that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s — the longtime Larry David cohort is set to be featured in the forthcoming final batch of episodes.

At this time, the twelfth season of Curb Your Enthusiasm does not have an official release date, although it will likely hit HBO sometime in the fall.
