It’s now been over four years since the release of Avengers: Endgame, and therefore four years since Robert Downey Jr’s last appearance in the franchise as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Given that the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was largely built on the back of Downey Jr’s Iron Man, and the fact that no one in the comic book world is *really dead*, fans have spent the last few years speculating if and when the beloved star might return to the franchise.

And according to recent rumors, that could be soon, as the 58-year-old star — who will next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer — was apparently seen on the set of Captain America: Brave New World.

Now, the rumor comes from an unlikely source: a LinkedIn post from a man in the Washington D.C. area. The person in question, however, gave such an innocuous and detailed description of the events, though, that it’s difficult to imagine him lying.

“They are filming Captain America 4 around the White House and near my office,” the LinkedIn post in question reads.

“I was on a quick errand walk as I noticed all the lights and equipment and finally asked one of the security folks about it. He was so talkative and nice, said — (SPOILER) — Robert Downey Jr was there last night and they were driving all sorts of super cars. We had a good talk and some laughs. “

One part of the LinkedIn post does stand out, however, and that’s the mention that Downey Jr. was “driving all sorts of super cars”, which is something that Downey Jr. has been up to recently as his new Max series Downey’s Dream Cars premiered on the streaming service in late June.

While it’s unclear if Downey Jr. will be in the film, Captain America: Brave New World — which is set to hit theaters on July 26, 2024 — stars Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, and more. Although unconfirmed, recent rumors also suggest that Brave New World will be a cameo-fest similar to the last Captain America film, Civil War.
