Steven Soderbergh will help Matt Reeves finish 'The Batman: Part II'
Robert Pattinson says he’s “so happy” that Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to finish filming The Batman: Part II after director Matt Reeves stepped away from the shoot to deal with an ongoing family matter.
Speaking about the news that Soderbergh will be stepping in for director Matt Reeves, Robert Pattinson described the Ocean’s Eleven director’s offer to help Reeves finish the movie amid serious personal issues is “incredibly generous.”
Robert Pattinson says director Steven Soderbergh stepping in to finish The Batman: Part II is “completely selfless”
“It’s incredibly generous of him — and he’s doing it in the loveliest way. It’s completely selfless,” Pattinson told GamesRadar.
“I think Matt had put so much work into the script, and we’re almost done. So for someone to come in and say, ‘I just want to help Matt do it; I want to do it in conjunction with him and just get it to the edit.’ And to have someone who’s as talented as Steven doing it is great.”
Asked when filming would pick back up, Pattinson said, “I think they’re in production already. And I’m starting in a couple of days.”
According to DC Studios, Soderbergh will step in “with the full support of DC Studios” to help complete the shoot, and he and Reeves “will work closely together with the actors and crew.” Soderbergh said the goal is to “generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot.” Principal photography began in June, and production was paused earlier this month when Reeves stepped away.
In addition to the Ocean’s trilogy, the Academy Award-winning Soderbergh has also directed films such as Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Contagion, Magic Mike, Logan Lucky, and more.
Reeves has made clear he isn’t going anywhere. “Just to be clear, I am not leaving ‘The Batman Part II,’” he wrote on social media, adding that he is grateful to Soderbergh for helping him finish principal photography. DC says Reeves will return to lead post-production and oversee his vision for the film.
The Batman: Part II is still set to hit theaters in February 2028.
