A judge has granted Sabrina Carpenter a five-year restraining order against a man who has tried to enter her home more than a dozen times.

As part of the order, William Applegate, 31, must stay at least 100 yards away from Sabrina Carpenter, her sister and her sister’s partner, who live with her. The judge also prohibited him from possessing any guns and making any attempts to contact the singer.

The alleged stalker provided bizarre testimony during the hearing

During the hearing, Applegate, according to The Associated Press, claimed that he and Sabrina Carpenter are part of a classified military program that required them to “be together as soon as possible” because it is essential to “national and global security.”

In his filing contesting the restraining order, he also claimed that while he was at Carpenter’s Coachella festival performance in April, she tried to talk to him by looking at him while she sang.

Applegate, who appeared in court without an attorney, admitted to all attempts to enter Carpenter’s home, claiming she wanted him there. He also said he would be “more than willing” to stay away from her if she personally told him that is what she wants.

Although Sabrina Carpenter was prepared to provide testimony remotely, the court did not ask her to do so. Her attorney, Blair Berk, stated during the hearing that the singer is “is in fear for her own personal safety and the safety of members of her family.”

Carpenter claimed in her filing that Applegate struck a security guard and reached her front door last month, and then returned again a few days later. On May 29, the judge granted her a temporary restraining order. According to The Associated Press, authorities are still investigating Applegate, but court records do not show that prosecutors have filed any charges.

While speaking to Applegate during the hearing, Judge David L. Wasserman told him, “I understand that it’s your belief that in order to save the world, you and the petitioner must be together. I expect you to obey the order, not what you think is right, not what you think the military commands you.”
