Sacha Baron Cohen thinks Nathan Fielder is succeeding in a genre he "created"
Sacha Baron Cohen had some nice things to say about Nathan Fielder. That turned into saying nice things about himself.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter — Sacha Baron Cohen is out promoting his latest Ali G film, a character he debuted almost 30 years ago — the Borat actor seemed to assign himself some of the credit for Nathan Fielder’s success.

Fielder has been the talk of Hollywood in recent weeks as the co-director of the widely acclaimed Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything, which is being predicted as becoming the first documentary to ever be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
“I think he’s a comic genius and he reinvented the genre that I, I suppose, created or developed,” Cohen told THR. “And he had a rule really, which was to not do anything that I had done.”
Fielder co-directed two episodes of Cohen’s 2018 Showtime series Who Is America? and served as a writer and consulting producer on the show.
“But he’s a brilliant, brilliant mind, and absolutely hilarious,” he continued. “I think his documentary’s going to be huge, so I’m very excited for him.”
Cohen is currently promoting Ali G: Who Iz I?, which hits theaters October 23 before streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Fielder’s comedic style was established before working on Who Is America?, as he created and starred in Comedy Central’s Nathan for You, which ran from 2013 to 2017.
In just the last four years, Fielder has produced two seasons of HBO’s The Rehearsal, Showtime’s The Curse, and the acclaimed documentary You Can See Everything.
In that same time, Cohen has starred in the AppleTV series Disclaimer, a single episode of the MCU series Ironheart, the Prime Video comedy Balls Up, and the Netflix movie Ladies First — the latter two of which are among the worst-reviewed films of 2026.
