Australian pop duo Savage Garden was on top of the world in the 1990s and then even had a resurgence in the 2020s thanks to the virality of TikTok. Darren Hayes who was one of the two members alongside Daniel Jones recently took to Instagram with the message “I could have died.”
His story is pretty wild. The incident occurred about this time last month and Darren Hayes says his mother had just passed away 2 months to the day prior. He says he arose from bed and fainted 3 times, losing consciousness each time.
The Savage Garden singer says that on the third fall the “blunt force trauma was so severe it snapped my left jawbone in half.” Hayes goes on to say that when he regained consciousness after fainting for the third time he “woke up in a pool of blood, terrible pain in my left side of my head and with 9 teeth shattered.”
On Instagram, the Savage Garden singer shared a photo of his X-Ray showing the titanium brace that was used to reconnect his jaw and bones after his mouth was wired shut. It will remain wired shut for at least 8 weeks now allowing the bones to fuse and heal.
The Savage Garden singer said “I could have died if I landed in a different position” but believes he is on the right track to recovery… Which is great because without him and without Savage Garden we never would have had this incredible TikTok back during 2020… This was arguably the most memorable TikTok video to come out of the pandemic, right?
