While Wes Anderson’s movies largely eschew sex and/or nudity scenes, that trend changes in his latest film Asteroid City, which sees lead actress Scarlett Johansson bare all for a brief second.
Speaking to Yahoo! Entertainment about the filming of the moment, the 38-year-old Johansson detailed how awkward Anderson was about it, saying he becomes “uncomfortable” when it comes to such scenes.
“Wes is probably the worst person to talk to about anything like that. He’s so uncomfortable around that topic,” Johansson said.
“I’ll leave it up to your imagination. There was a lot of throat clearing and [Wes] sort of hiding his face,” she joked when asked if Anderson gave her any notes on how to perform the scene.
Asteroid City, of course, isn’t the first time that Johansson has stripped down to her birthday suit for a film, as she famously bared all in the 2013 sci-fi film Under The Skin. The film is also Johansson’s first live-action collaboration with Anderson, as he previously provided a voice role for his stop-motion animated film Isle Of Dogs.
In addition to Johansson, Asteroid City boasts an ensemble cast that features the likes of Jason Schwartzman, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Steve Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, and Jeff Goldblum.
In the coming years, Johansson is set to provide the voice of Elita One in the upcoming Transformers animated film Transformers One, star alongside Channing Tatum in the AppleTV+ sci-fi film Project Artemis, and in the British drama film My Mother’s Wedding.
Prior to the release of the film, BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast had a chance to speak with both Johansson and Schwartzman, so make sure to check out that interview below.
Asteroid City hits theaters in the United States on Friday, June 23.
