HBO’s anthology show The White Lotus has been an absolute phenomenon through its first two seasons, and, big changes are coming to the smash hit for a much-anticipated season three.

Series creator Mike White spoke to Entertainment Weekly about what fans can expect from season three.

“It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” White reveals. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing … I’m super excited about the content of the season,” according to the Entertainment Weekly article.

He also commented on characters from the anthology returning for more than one season, like Jennifer Cooldige’s character Tanya did in seasons 1 and 2.

“White previously stated that he would be open to bringing other characters back, like Connie Britton’s wealthy tech CFO Nicole Mossbacher or Greg, Tanya’s (Jennifer Coolidge) greedy, duplicitous husband played by Jon Gries in seasons 1 and 2. “It would be easy to just be full-on anthology, but I think it’s more fun to have little threads through the show,” he said. “If the show goes on for a couple of seasons, it would be fun to have an all-star season,'” the article said.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the term anthology in a television series, it’s a genre that presents an entirely new story each season, though sometimes with similar themes.

That’s the best way to describe >The White Lotus, which is focused on a group of vacationers at luxury resorts. Season 1 was based in Hawaii, while season 2 was based in Italy. Each season dealt with a major overarching theme, with season one focusing on imperalism, classism, and other political topics. But, both seasons open with a dead body being taken out of the resort, and viewers spend the rest of the season trying to find out who died, who killed them, and how they died.

In my opinion, this show has been tremendous its first two seasons, and has the change to enter the pantheon of all-time greats. Show creator Mike White, whom you may know from competing on Survivor and The Amazing Race, has done an excellent job weaving characters and plot lines together.

He also added that he hopes for season 3 to start filming right after the new year, assuming the SAG strike ends soon.
