Roller coaster world rankings is something most people on planet earth might never be aware of while still subconsciously knowing such a think exists, because of course they do. There is only one ‘world’s fastest…’ roller coaster of each type and there are records for biggest drops, fastest/tallest inversions, etc. Soon, the Bakunawa roller coaster will own six of those world records.
Six Flags Great Adventure’s new ‘Bakunawa’ roller coaster in Jackson Township, New Jersey was announced this week. The record-breaking coaster is set to open in 2027 but the specific launch date is unclear. However, a sneak preview of the roller coaster has aficionados licking their chops at this future marvel of engineering.
Bakunawa Roller Coaster Set To Break SIX World Records At Six Flags Great Adventure
Among the roller coaster world records set to be broken are (1) World’s Fastest Spinning Coaster, (2) World’s Fastest Inversion, (3) World’s First Upside-Down Launch, (4) World’s Longest Stall Inversion, (5) World’s Tallest Spinning Coaster, and (6) World’s Firs Floorless Spinning Coaster.
To add some more details there, the Bakunawa will reach a speed of 100 miles per hour. It has an 80 MPH inversion and will reach a height of 382 feet, all records.

For whatever reason, I was drawn into the Roller Coasters POV algorithm recently on Instagram Reels. Specifically, the @national_coasters channel. And one of the first things I took notice of is how the rest of the world seems to be outpacing America in the roller coaster race.
South Korea, China, and Japan are building some of the tallest, fastest, and most intimidating roller coasters ever constructed. So to see Six Flags Great Adventure announce Bakunawa and snatch six world records in the process warms my heart.
At the moment, Six Flags Qiddiya City is home to ‘Falcons Flight’ which holds the record for the fastest steel roller coaster at 155.3 MPH as well as the tallest at 534.8 ft. ‘The Smiler’ in the UK holds the record for most inversions with 14. Falcons Flight is also the longest steel roller coaster in the world at 13,944 ft long.
Bakunawa is being built by Macks Rides, a Germany company that has been in operation for 246 years (founded in 1780). They build roller coasters, log flumes, flat rides, dark rides, and more. It is hard to fathom a company being in business that long building rides but they were founded in 1780 building stagecoaches and carriages and have been going strong ever since.
