REVIEW: Sonic’s Pickle Juice Slush Is A Sugary, Tangy Drink That Makes For A Sweet Pickleback

Summer 2018 is the summer of the pickle. There is KFC’s new Pickle-Fried Chicken Sandwich (Read the review HERE). There is pickle beer. Now there is Pickle Juice Slush at Sonic Drive-In.

Sonic recently dropped their new line of Snow Cone Slush flavors for the summer that includes Bahama Mama, Blue Hawaiian, Tiger’s Blood, and Pickle Juice. For real, there is a Pickle Juice Slush. People enjoy pickles accompanying their deli sandwiches or on their burgers. But will people want to drink an icy pickle juice slush?

First off, the Pickle Juice Slush has a glowing fluorescent neon green color that appears like it could potentially be radioactive. The first sniff, it smells exactly like a vinegary, dilly freshly opened pickle jar full of salty brine. The aroma is actually a little off-putting, however, it has a much more appealing taste. The first sip has a refreshing lime flavor, followed by the flood of pickle tang. There is a ton of sugar in the drink that makes it much more sweet than savory. Imagine a lime Gatorade with a candy flavor version of pickles. It’s definitely a summertime flavor and would pair well with burgers or fried chicken sandwiches.

As a person who enjoys pickle juice and is not against drinking pickle juice as a hangover remedy, I didn’t hate the Pickle Juice Slush. I’d go so far as to recommend using Sonic’s Pickle Juice as a sort of sugary pickleback that could be used to chase whiskey shots. Would I get it again? Probably not because it is more of one-and-done experience. This was definitely created for diehard pickle enthusiasts, but they might not love how sweet it is. If you love pickles as well as sweet and savory flavors give the Pickle Juice Slush a try.
