Sony Is Developing Two More Absolutely Bonkers ‘Spider-Man’ Spin-Offs

Despite the fact that they’re only, like, one-and-a-half movies into their seemingly half-baked Mini Marvel Universe — Venom represents the one and the soon-to-be-released Morbius represents the half — Sony is full steam ahead with the franchise, as recent reports indicate that the studio is now developing two more Spidey spin-offs.

However, while the common comic book fan may have heard of characters like Venom, the two characters now reportedly in-development — Solo and Man-Wolf — are entirely off-the-grid selections.

Sony is firmly in a new phase of Spider-Man filmmaking. They have a new agreement and understanding with Marvel Studios over the rights to Spider-Man and the MCU’s characters crossing the streams. They proved that they could make a hit superhero movie despite the absence of Spider-Man with Venom. The next spin-off film from Spidey’s world is this year’s Morbius, while the third Spider-Man film is prepping for an international shoot.

Our source explained that Sony has two other lesser-known characters from the Marvel Comics’ world of Spider-Man, Solo and Man-Wolf, in the early stages of development at the studio. As far as we know there isn’t talent attached at this time, but they are on the conveyor belt of production that brought the equally improbable Morbius spin-off film to an unlikely reality.

However, everything has been thrown up in the air over the past few weeks and Hollywood, along with the rest of the world, has been turned upside down. So, with that uncertainty in mind, we wanted to share some information that we’ve been sitting on for a few weeks.[via The Illuminerdi]

Truth be told, despite the fact that I consider myself a somewhat knowledgeable comic book fan, I’ve never heard of either of these characters.

This is not the first time there have been rumors of Sony fleshing out their Mini Marvel Universe. Back in September, there were reports that the studio was developing a Madame Web film. Then, at the beginning of the year, we reported that Sony had set the weekend of October 8, 2021, for the release of yet another Marvel film. Finally, just last week, news broke that Amazing Spider-Man 2 co-writer Roberto Orci was tapped to write an as-yet-untitled Marvel film.

Morbius, the next film in Sony’s Marvel Universe, will hit theaters in the United States on Friday, July 31. Then, on October 2, Venom 2 — which sees Woody Harrelson join the franchise — will be released. However, given the current planetary situation, it is unclear if Morbius will still be released this summer.
