The new Insomniac game Spider-Man 2 was released on PlayStation last week and has been garnering nearly universal acclaim since.

A sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the game sees the two beloved Spideys team up to take on the likes of Kraven the Hunter, Sandman, Lizard, and Venom.

The game also features references to the wider Marvel world such as Avengers Tower, various X-Men easter eggs (Insomniac is also cooking up a highly-anticipated Wolverine game), and Black Panther.

The Black Panther homage is a bit different than the others: whereas Avengers Tower and the X-Men references (such as a spray-painted “X” symbol) are places you can visit, the Black Panther reference is something you can do, as Miles Morales is able to do the “Wakanda Forever” symbol. There’s also a bonus Black Panther-themed suit that can be unlocked.

Something that fans have noticed in the days since the game was released, however, is that only Miles can do the Wakanda salute and not Peter Parker.

It’s been a huge year for Spider-Man, particularly the Miles Morales character, as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released earlier this year to acclaim from both critics and fans alike, and grossed almost $700 million at the global box office.

Given the success of all three games in the franchise so far, Insomniac has basically already confirmed that there will be a fourth game in the series.
