Killers of the Flower Moon premiering at the Cannes Film Festival apparently isn’t the only thing that Leonardo DiCaprio is making headlines for this week, as an Instagram model and influencer claimed on a recent podcast that she “ghosted” the Academy Award winning actor a decade ago.
Speaking on her podcast the KICPOD Steph Claire Smith claimed that she met Leonardo DiCaprio (in what sounds like Los Angeles) when she was 19 years old.
According to Smith, she met DiCaprio during a night on the town and eventually exchanged numbers with the Oscar winner.
“I was dancing on my own for most of the night, and I noticed someone looking at me and I realized this guy is wearing one of those hats, like those English hats and I was like, he kinda looks like Leonardo DiCaprio. Then my friend came over and was like, ‘Steph, apparently Leonardo DiCaprio is here,’ and I was like, ‘Wow, it is him!'” Smith said.
“This person that was with him weaved themselves through the crowd and was like, ‘Do you want to meet Leo?’ Abso-f******-lutely I do! So we went over, he did the whole French double kiss on the cheek,” she explained.
DiCaprio asked, “Can I grab your number, I would love to take you out for dinner to some of the nicest restaurants around here,” before later texting her “This is Leo, this is the number you can contact me on.”
At this point, however, is when Smith — who was already dating her eventual husband at the time — apparently decided to ghost the internationally famed and acclaimed actor.
“I’m the one that got away, I don’t know what to say,” she joked.
Needless to say, in the years since (allegedly) striking out on Steph Claire Smith — who has over 1.5 million followers on Instagram, by the way — Leo has done just fine for himself in the dating department.
DiCaprio’s latest film Killers of the Flower Moon, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, is earning rave reviews and will hit theaters in the United States on October 20.
