Viewers of Stranger Things have noticed a significant error in the show’s wardrobe in a scene from season 5, episode 7. The scene in question involves Holly Wheeler trying to escape from Vecna’s web of gooey stuff in the Upside Down.
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is supposed to take place in 1987, right? What year was the apparel company Under Armour founded? (Hint: it wasn’t before 1988.)
So, if Under Armour was founded after 1987 (it was actually 1996), how could a character like Holly Wheeler be wearing one of their shirts? Answer: she can’t. (Unless she is really a time traveler from the future that will be addressed in the series finale.)
It’s an easy wardrobe mistake to overlook. I watched that episode and saw that scene with Holly Wheeler and I didn’t notice the Under Armour logo on her sleeve.
Still, considering it took OVER THREE YEARS for season 5 of Stranger Things to be released, it’s the kind of misstep that gnaws at fans of the show.
“100 million an episode. What an attention to detail,” one person commented on X.
“All of the attention to detail and they missed this!?” another viewer asked.
“This entire season IS A MISTAKE,” another exasperated fan added.
Throw in the fact that many viewers, like the one above, have found this final season to be less-than-stellar, and it’s like we’re reliving Game of Thrones’ final few episodes all over again.
What happened on ‘Game of Thrones’ that was so similar?
As you may recall, in 2019, Game of Thrones was one of the most expensive TV shows ever produced. (Sound familiar, Stranger Things fans?) So, fans, who were already a little irked with the quality of the final season, were completely fed up when a modern-day coffee cup appeared in episode 4. Fans were also less-than-enamored with the showrunners’ explanation for how the cup was left in the scene.
That wasn’t the worst part, though. Fans really lost their minds when a modern water bottle (or two) appeared in the Game of Thrones series finale.
The eighth and final episode of Stranger Things can make up for a lot when it is released on December 31. If it’s good, then no one will be talking about Holly Wheeler’s Under Armour shirt appearing in 1987. If it isn’t… well…
