Things got very weird during a recent police chase in Washington state when a suspect threw a chainsaw at pursuing deputies. Bonus: the officers captured the wild scene on video.
“We’re just going to get to it. I can’t make this stuff up,” Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy Carly Capetto said to begin the video showing the bizarre arrest on Facebook.
A caller to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office reported that someone had just stolen her car from an apartment building in the Parkland area on April 19 at approximately 11:50 p.m.
A few minutes later, a K9 deputy reported seeing the car attempting to flee the area. When the officer attempted a traffic stop on the car, which contained two males, a chase began, and the suspects eventually entered Interstate Highway I-5 South heading towards Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM).
“Things get a little interesting from here when the passenger decides to throw out a chainsaw and other rope-type items out the passenger window in an attempt to disable or crash the police vehicles behind them,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office wrote in the Facebook post.
“Just threw a chainsaw,” one of the pursuing deputies can be heard saying on the radio, warning the others to “keep your eyes open.”
The K9 officer warned a suspect his dog would bite him
After leaving I-5, both suspects tried to escape on foot when their vehicle got stuck. The K9 officer can be heard saying to one suspect, “My dog will find you; he will bite you.” The K9 team eventually located one of the suspects, age 31, who they identified as the truck’s passenger. They transported him to a nearby hospital for a dog bite.
He will face charges for possessing motor vehicle theft tools, eluding, and first-degree assault on the deputies because he threw the objects out of the truck’s window in an attempt to disable or crash the deputies’ vehicles.
Shortly thereafter, JBLM military police found the 28-year-old driver on the base. Officers charged him with theft of a motor vehicle and felony eluding.
