Jeff Bezos’ wedding to Lauren Sanchez in Venice, Italy, was seemingly filled with A-list celebrities and very little actual friends and family. One of those celebs was actress Sydney Sweeney.

Naturally, given that Sydney Sweeney is a 27-year-old actress and Jeff Bezos is a 61-year-old Lex Luthor-esque billionaire, you might find yourself wondering what she was doing on the guest list. It’s certainly stranger than Leonardo DiCaprio or Oprah being there, for example, as they’ve been known to pal around billionaires.

According to recent reports, Sweeney had a business-oriented reason to be there, as Page Six claims sources said she was there to “pay respects to the ‘boss'” as she lines up a potential franchise at Amazon MGM Studios.

“Sources tell Page Six that Sweeney went to the Venice nuptials because she’s starring in an upcoming potential blockbuster for Bezos’ Amazon MGM Studios.”

“A source told Page Six of Sweeney’s attendance that the star ‘is not friends with either one of them,’ but ‘came to pay respects to the ‘boss,’ just like in the old days of Hollywood,’ since she was invited.”

Earlier this summer, it was announced that Sweeney would be starring in an adaptation of the video game Split Fiction from Wicked director Jon M. Chu, which certainly feels like the sort of project Amazon would want to acquire.

Sweeney was most recently seen starring in the AppleTV+ film Echo Valley alongside Julianne Moore, Julianne Moore, Domhnall Gleeson, Kyle MacLachlan, and Fiona Shaw, and will next be seen starring in the movies Eden and Americana, which both his theaters on August 22.

Later this year, Sweeney will star alongside Amanda Seyfried in Paul Feig’s adaptation of the bestselling thriller novel The Housemaid, which is scheduled for a Christmas Day release.

Her Christy Martin biopic is currently in post-production, though a release date hasn’t been announced. During a recent press tour, Sweeney revealed she gained 30 pounds of muscle for the role of the legendary female boxer, much of it added to her chest and glutes.

At 27, Sweeney remains in high demand with a packed slate of upcoming projects. She’s attached to Edgar Wright’s Barbarella, a live-action adaptation of the hit anime Gundam, OutRun directed by Michael Bay (serving as producer), I Pretended to be a Missing Girl, and several other projects.
