‘Looks Fresh Outta Chernobyl’: South Carolina Taco Bell Worker Reveals New Baja Blast Pie. Then They Try To Cut It

The Mountain Dew Baja Blast is a fan favorite among Taco Bell customers. But is this signature drink—created by PepsiCo and Taco Bell in the early 2000s—good enough to eat?

Taco Bell is no stranger to experimenting with the Baja Blast. Last year, for a limited time, Taco Bell temporarily released the Baja Blast in gelato form. In August, the beloved chain launched a new Baja Blast flavor called the Mountain Dew Baja Midnight.

And in early November, the Baja Blast Pie is slated to be available nationwide. For a limited time, customers can purchase a bright turquoise whole pie with a graham cracker crust and whipped cream for $19.99. The concept seems ideal in theory; it appeals to Taco Bell customers, Baja Blast fans, and pie lovers.

But when Taco Bell employees unveiled the highly anticipated dessert on TikTok, it left viewers with no cravings.

Hard As A Rock

South Carolina-based Taco Bell employee Jani Galloway (@janibrooke_) films one of her co-workers cutting into the pie on the assembly line. At first glance, the dessert appears as advertised: bright green custard with a whipped cream border and a graham cracker crust, precut into fourths, in a tin.

However, when the co-worker cuts into it, a struggle between them and the pie ensues. “Bro, this is like a rock,” Galloway notes of the frozen solid texture.

According to the caption, the flavor doesn’t taste any better. Galloway describes it as “bad as it looks.”

Viewers Are Appalled

The video amassed 4.1 million views. Viewers were equally unimpressed by the new dessert. Many cracked jokes at the pie’s expense.

“That … looks fresh outta chernobyl,” one of the top comments with over 95,000 remarked.

“[This] looks like bar soap & shaving cream,” another stated.

“It’s good as a drink but that sounds absolutely diabolical as a pie,” a third commented.

“Is it made of wax?” a fourth asked.

Even a fellow Baja Blast fan agreed. “Nobody loves Baja blast more than I do. But what the f— is this?” they questioned.

What Went Wrong With This Baja Blast Pie?

Although the pie hasn’t hit the menu yet, some fans were able to taste the pie during the Live Más LIVE event. FoodBeast describes the flavor as a key lime pie but sweeter and tangier.  In an r/tacobell subreddit, an employee who had kind words for the pie similarly compared it to “a key lime pie” but noted it had a Baja Blast aftertaste.

So what happened to the Baja Blast Pie in Galloway’s video? It seems the pies arrive at stores frozen and need to be thawed before serving.

So maybe the pie in Galloway’s video isn’t the most accurate representation of what the pie is going to be like. If you like Baja Blasts and pies, it’s probably worth trying out for yourself this November.
