After a decade since the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, a launch date for the highly-anticipated sixth entry in the behemoth video game franchise could be on the horizon.

During a recent investors call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick claimed that the fiscal year of 2025 would set ‘new standards in our industry’, which is a phrase that the company had previously used when talking about Grand Theft Auto Six. Zelnick also stated that Take-Two would “achieve over $8 billion in net bookings.”

Fiscal 2025 is from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, which suggests that the long-awaited game will release next year.

“For the last several years, we have been preparing our business to release an incredibly robust pipeline of projects that we believe will take our company to even greater levels of success,” Zelnick said during the recent investors call.

“In Fiscal 2025, we expect to enter this new era by launching several ground-breaking titles that we believe will set new standards in our industry and enable us to achieve over $8 billion in Net Bookings and over $1 billion in Adjusted Unrestricted Operating Cash Flow. We expect to sustain this momentum by delivering even higher levels of operating results in Fiscal 2026 and Beyond,” Zelnick added.

As of February 2023, Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold over 175 million units worldwide, making it the second highest-selling video game of all time, behind only Minecraft.

The game is also one of the most financially successful releases in the history of entertainment as it has a total worldwide revenue in the neighborhood of $6 billion, which is about $1 billion more than the combined global box office totals of Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water.

Whenever it does finally release, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be the eighth main entry in the franchise and the 16th overall. And while Rockstar Games have yet to confirm as much, leaks seem to indicate the game will be taking place in a modernized version of Vice City, which was the fictionalized version of Miami that was used as the setting for 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
