Tasty Tune Tuesday 1/26: The Tenth Edition Will Cure The Winter Blues

TT- 1:26

As the winter blues start to reach their peak, there is no better way to lift your spirits than with some good music! On the third day of every week, I’ll drop ten songs that tickle my eardrums. Variety of tracks will range from hip hop/rap, EDM, country, singer/songwriter, Americana, R&B and everything in between— something for everyone depending on what I’m jamming that week.

This collection of songs is perfect for warming you up in the cold months. Here’s the tracklist:

Track No. 1: I’d Rather Go Blind – Etta James

You have heard this song in some capacity, at some point. It was brought back on my radar during an episode of ‘Ozark’ the other day, and I had forgotten how great it is. A blues classic by one of the best.

Track No. 2: Palm of Your Hand – Moon Taxi

Moon Taxi released its sixth full-length album last week and it’s a total mood-booster. They leaned more into the pop side of their music, but it doesn’t stray from what makes their sound unique. Check out my full review.

Track No. 3: What If I Go? – Mura Masa, Bonzai

The opening drumbeat sustains the track, coupled with a steel drum-esque synth that fits seamlessly with the sweet vocals. It’s a quirky, satisfying song.

Track No. 4: I Can’t Lose – Erick The Architect

Erick The Architect was on this list a few weeks back with a new single. The head man of Flatbush Zombies dropped a full EP and all five songs are solid. This is my favorite.

Track No. 5: The Real Thing – Parker Millsap

Parker Millsap is the definition of Americana. He moves seamlessly through roots-inspired influences like blues, country and bluegrass without boundary. This song is a good introduction for someone who may not know his music, as it leans into the pop side of Americana.

Track No. 6: Take Me Away – Sinead Harnett, EARTHGANG

This pairing couldn’t fit any better. It’s smooth, sultry and soothing.

Track No. 7: Minefields (Remix) – Faouzia, John Legend, Ofenbach

I would walk into oncoming traffic if John Legend told me to in song. This is a fun remix of something a little bit different that boasts his powerful voice.

Track No. 8: On My Way – The Wild Feathers

When you combine southern rock, Americana and heartland pop, you’ll find the Wild Feathers. This “OurVinyl” session series lets artists do their thing how they’re most comfortable. Bands like this are often best in their element as opposed to a perfectly-packaged album and that’s the case here.

Track No. 9: Good Vibes (Za) – Wale

Wale being Wale. His new single is all about the title.

Track No. 10: Something Beautiful – Hot Buttered Rum

I try not to bring too much bluegrass into the mix, because it’s undeniably a polarizing genre that doesn’t reach out past its fairly niche following, but here we are. Hot Buttered Rum is something like a Phish or other jam bands, but playing fiddles, banjos and mandolins.
