Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift are best friends of almost two decades. However, Gomez reportedly turned down an invitation to be a bridesmaid for Swift’s wedding to Travis Kelce.
Benny Blanco did not accidentally disclose a secret on the latest episode of the ‘Friends Keep Secret’ Podcast. (Which isn’t a podcast!)
The Kansas City Chiefs cup that sparked chatter on the internet has nothing to do with the biggest celebrity wedding of the year. Or does it?!
Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are best friends.
As the story goes, Swift and Gomez first met around 2008 through the Jonas Brothers. Taylor was dating Joe. Selena was dating Nick. They immediately hit it off and have been extremely close ever since.
Gomez frequently refers to Swift as her only true friend in the industry and cites her as a constant source of support. Swift said that Gomez is the “closest thing she’s ever had to a sister.”
A full timeline of their friendship provides a great look at their shared bond.
Swift even wrote the song ‘Dorothea’ about Gomez on her most recent album, The Life of a Showgirl.

Selena Gomez got married to Benny Blanco at the end of last summer. Not only was Taylor Swift in attendance, exclusive photos from the wedding day show them holding hands on the dance floor.
You get the idea. Swift and Gomez are super close. They are best friends of 18 years!
Did Benny Blanco reveal one of the bridesmaids?
For those who don’t know, Benny Blanco is one of the biggest record producers in the world. His biggest hits include ‘Love Yourself’ by Justin Bieber, ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran and ‘Teenage Dream’ by Katy Perry but that list only begins to scratch the surface of his full catalog.
Blanco married Gomez in 2025. He and Dave Bird (perhaps best known as Lil Dicky) started a podcast (that isn’t a podcast) with Kristin Batalucco, Bird’s wife, earlier this year.
Friends Keep Secrets, which isn’t a podcast, takes a super unique approach to the oversaturated podcast space. It supposed to make you feel like you are in the living room with Batalucco, Bird, Blanco and their guest, having a casual conversation amongst friends, instead of a formal interview. I digress.
Barry Keoghan appeared on the most recent episode of Friends Keep Secrets. Blanco repeatedly drank from a bedazzled tumbler cup over the course of 52 minutes. It featured the Kansas City Chiefs logo, with the letters “SG” instead of “KC.”
The “SG” stands for Selena Gomez. The logo reflects Taylor Swift’s ties to the National Football League organization through Travis Kelce.

The internet ran wild with all kinds of theories related to the “SG” Chiefs cup. A lot of people, especially the Swifties and Selenators, tried to connect the dots. The tumbler certainly looks like a gift a bride-to-be would give to her best friends when she asked them to be her bridesmaids. Is that was this is?!
Maybe! Probably not.
Upon further review, Swift gifted the tumbler cup to Gomez when she brought her to Kansas City for a game last season. I could not find the original source, but this photo was shared on December 13:

But here’s the thing.
According to an article published by Emma Powell and Russ Weakland of the Daily Mail on December 3, Gomez turned down an invitation to be one of Swift’s bridesmaids— on more than one occasion! She supposedly declined the offer because she doesn’t want to take the focus away from her on her big day.
So maybe the Chiefs cup was part of the bridesmaid invitation, only for Gomez to say no! We don’t know the reason for the gift. Either way, Blanco did not spoil the big wedding secret. He was drinking from a cup that was already made public.
